Chengdu High-Tech Industrial Development Zone was founded in 1988 and is described by China’s National Intellectual Property Administration as one of the country’s first high-tech zones. [1] In 2015 it became the first national independent-innovation demonstration zone in western China. [1] The designation gave the zone a policy role in experimenting with entrepreneurship, technology commercialization, talent recruitment, intellectual-property management and protection, science-and-finance combinations, and integrated industrial and urban development. [1]

The zone’s current industrial profile is built around electronic information, biomedicine and the digital economy, with artificial intelligence identified by Sichuan’s industry authority as an emerging area being laid out in the zone. [2] A 2024 government report on a provincial high-tech-zone inspection specifically described visits to integrated-circuit, low-altitude-aircraft and computing-hardware companies in Chengdu High-Tech Zone, linking the zone’s development to advanced manufacturing and new forms of productive technology. [2]

A 2025 Sichuan market-regulation report describes the zone as using a “one zone, four parks” spatial layout and focusing on three trillion-yuan-level clusters—electronic information, biomedicine and the digital economy. [3] It also identifies a national intellectual-property new-economy demonstration park within the zone. [3] In the same year, the Chengdu zone’s national IP-service-industry demonstration area signed a cooperation agreement with the Mianyang Science and Technology City New Area, covering talent training, shared patent and technology-map resources, cross-regional services and overseas rights protection. [3]

These sources present Chengdu High-Tech Zone as an institutional platform that combines land and business administration with innovation policy, intellectual-property services, research commercialization and technology-intensive industry. [1] [2] [3] Its role in the database is therefore regional and ecosystem-based: it is a public development zone through which companies, research organizations and technology partnerships can access an organized innovation environment.
