CITIC Capital Holdings Limited is a global alternative-investment management and advisory company founded in 2002. [1] Its current “About Us” page says the firm manages more than US$13 billion of capital as of December 2024, employs more than 280 people and operates from Hong Kong, Shanghai, Beijing, Shenzhen, Tokyo and New York. [1] It describes its approach as combining knowledge of Chinese business and financial markets with global investment expertise. [1]

The platform’s businesses cover private equity, real estate, structured investment and finance, asset management, special situations, ESG investing, healthcare, advanced technology and innovation-and-technology investments. [2] Its structured-finance practice says it provides senior debt, mezzanine debt, convertibles, hybrids, preferred equity and other tailored capital solutions for growth, refinancing, restructuring, pre-IPO financing and cross-border acquisitions. [2]

CITIC Capital’s real-estate business reports more than 50 projects invested in China since 2005, over US$3.9 billion of total committed capital and more than US$11 billion of total asset value. [3] The firm describes a process covering fundraising, investment screening, execution, operations, monitoring and exit, with portfolios spanning retail, logistics, office, industrial and residential property. [3]

The firm’s current homepage reports more than US$14 billion in assets under management, 120-plus funds and investment products, more than 320 portfolio companies since inception and more than 140 investment professionals. [4] These are firm-reported scale indicators and should be read with their website’s current “at a glance” framing rather than as audited financial statements. [4]

CITIC Capital is also relevant to the database because its private-equity affiliate Trustar Capital is part of the consortium controlling McDonald’s mainland China, Hong Kong and Macau businesses. [5] In an October 2024 announcement, CITIC Capital said the consortium planned to increase its investment and hold 52% after completion; the announcement also describes the 2017 strategic partnership and subsequent ownership changes, which are partnership-specific historical facts rather than a general description of all CITIC Capital activity.
