China National Biotec Group (CNBG) is the core organization of Sinopharm’s biopharmaceutical sector. [1] Sinopharm says that sector contains more than 20 production enterprises with CNBG at its center, while CNBG’s current English site describes the organization as a leading Chinese biopharmaceutical company and reports that it produced about 3.6 billion vaccine doses between 2014 and 2024. [1] [2]

A member profile published by the Developing Countries Vaccine Manufacturers Network describes CNBG as an integrated organization covering research and development, production, sales and postgraduate training. [3] It lists 11 secondary subsidiaries, 69 sub-secondary companies and more than 10,000 employees, with six business segments: human vaccines, blood products, medical aesthetics, animal healthcare, biotherapeutics and medical diagnostics. [3] These organizational figures come from the network profile and are not presented here as a newly audited 2026 count. [3]

CNBG’s current product activity includes seasonal influenza vaccination. [4] Sinopharm reported that the quadrivalent split-virion inactivated influenza vaccine developed by its Changchun Institute of Biological Products received release approval on April 16, 2025 and entered the market for the 2025–26 season, using influenza strains recommended by the World Health Organization. [4]

CNBG also became internationally visible through the COVID-19 vaccine developed by its Beijing Institute of Biological Products. [5] On May 7, 2021, the World Health Organization listed the Sinopharm vaccine for emergency use and identified the producer as Beijing Bio-Institute of Biological Products, a CNBG subsidiary; WHO described it as an inactivated SARS-CoV-2 vaccine and documented its quality, safety, efficacy and suitability assessment. [5]

Taken together, these sources show CNBG as a vertically integrated vaccine-and-biologics network within a state-owned pharmaceutical group, combining research institutes, manufacturing companies, diagnostics and blood-product businesses with domestic and international public-health supply. [1] [3] [5] The profile distinguishes current organizational and product information from the dated regulatory milestone rather than implying that the 2021 emergency-use listing is a current authorization decision.
