Johns Hopkins University
Johns Hopkins University is a privately endowed research university based in Baltimore, Maryland, founded in 1876 as the nation’s first research university. Its founding model explicitly connected teaching with research, and the university says its faculty, clinicians, researchers and students have contributed to work in fields including public health, medicine, engineering and the natural sciences. [1]
The university’s fiscal 2025 financial statements describe three closely linked functions: education, sponsored research and professional medical services. They report education and related services for approximately 31,000 students, including 18,000 full-time and 13,000 part-time students, and research services supported by approximately 2,300 government and private sponsors. Sponsored research represented approximately 53% of operating revenues in fiscal 2025. [2]
Johns Hopkins organizes its academic work through ten divisions, including the Krieger School of Arts and Sciences, the Whiting School of Engineering, the School of Medicine, the Bloomberg School of Public Health, the School of Nursing, the Peabody Institute, the School of Advanced International Studies and the Applied Physics Laboratory. The university reports campuses in Baltimore and Washington, D.C., along with facilities and programs elsewhere in the Baltimore-Washington region and abroad. [2] [3]
Its relevance to this database includes the Hopkins-Nanjing Center, an educational collaboration between Johns Hopkins and Nanjing University. The center offers master’s and certificate programs in Nanjing, with students studying in English, Chinese or a combination of both depending on the program. In June 2026, the center reported that 101 students from China, the United States and other countries received diplomas or certificates jointly conferred by the two universities. [4] [5]
