Sichuan University
Sichuan University is a comprehensive research university in Chengdu, Sichuan, founded in 1896. Its current 2026 admission guide identifies four major campuses—Wangjiang, Huaxi, Jiang’an and Meishan—and says the university offers 13 disciplines covering fields including literature, science, engineering, medicine, economics, management and law. The guide also describes multiple state key laboratories and research bases supporting teaching and research. [1]
The same current university source reports more than 38,000 full-time undergraduate students, more than 33,000 master’s and doctoral students, and nearly 3,000 international students and students from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan. It reports that Sichuan University ranked 87th in ShanghaiRanking’s 2025 Academic Ranking of World Universities, and that eight disciplines were in the ESI global top 0.1 percent while 21 were in the global top 1 percent. These rankings and enrollment figures are explicitly presented as the university’s 2026 admission-guide data. [1]
Sichuan University also hosts the Sichuan University–Pittsburgh Institute, jointly established by Sichuan University and the University of Pittsburgh. SCUPI says it combines the two universities’ mission, curriculum, teaching and educational resources, with all courses taught in English and an emphasis on engineering, design, innovation and international outlook. Its official milestones record 2+2 and 3+1 mobility programs beginning in 2017 and 2018, and an increase in approved undergraduate enrollment to 375 students per year in 2023. [2] [3]
