Dongfeng Motor Corporation (DFMC) is a Chinese central state-owned enterprise whose principal activities are automobile manufacturing, sales, services, and technology research and development. Its predecessor, the Second Automobile Works, began large-scale construction in Shiyan, Hubei, in 1969; the first military vehicle rolled off the line in 1975, and the company was renamed Dongfeng Motor Corporation in 1992. Its headquarters moved from Shiyan to Wuhan in 2003, and the corporate name changed to Dongfeng Motor Group Co., Ltd. in 2017. [1]

DFMC’s business covers passenger and commercial vehicles, key assemblies, automotive components, equipment, automobile finance, and related services. The company says its production bases span more than 20 Chinese cities and that its products are exported to more than 100 countries and regions. Dongfeng’s listed group reports that its consolidated businesses manufacture and sell automobiles, engines, and other auto parts and also provide financing services. [1] [2]

The company has expanded its own-brand portfolio as China’s vehicle market has shifted toward electrification. DFMC says it established Voyah in 2020 for high-end new-energy vehicles, founded M-Hero in 2022 for luxury electric off-road vehicles, and released the mainstream electric brands Dongfeng eπ and Dongfeng Nano in 2023. For 2024, it reported sales of 2.48 million vehicles, including 860,000 new-energy vehicles, while sales of its own brands reached 1.37 million. [1]

DFMC also describes a business history shaped by cooperation with international automakers, citing nearly three decades of joint-venture experience alongside its independent research, manufacturing, marketing, and service capabilities. The 2024 financial statements identify Dongfeng Motor Corporation as the state-owned ultimate holding company of Dongfeng Motor Group Company Limited, which helps distinguish the parent enterprise from the listed group and from individual brands or joint ventures.
