Honeywell’s corporate history traces the automation lineage to Albert Butz’s 1885 furnace regulator and to Mark Honeywell’s formation of Honeywell Heating Specialty Co. in 1906. [1] The two heating businesses merged in 1927 as Minneapolis-Honeywell Regulator Co., which then expanded into industrial controls and indicators. [1] In 1999, AlliedSignal acquired Honeywell and retained the Honeywell name, bringing together interests in aerospace, chemicals, automotive parts, and building controls. [1]

The portfolio later became more focused through a series of separations. Honeywell’s history records the 2018 spin-offs of its homes business into Resideo and its transportation business into Garrett Motion, followed by the 2019 launch of Honeywell Forge, an enterprise-performance-management software platform. [1] Honeywell’s 2025 Form 10-K states that the Advanced Materials business was spun off as the independent, publicly traded Solstice Advanced Materials on October 30, 2025. [2]

On June 29, 2026, Honeywell Technologies announced that it had completed the spin-off of its Aerospace Technologies business, which now operates as Honeywell Aerospace; Honeywell Technologies continued trading on Nasdaq under HON, while Honeywell Aerospace began trading under HONA. [3] The remaining Honeywell Technologies business is organized around Building Automation, Process Automation and Technology, and Industrial Automation. [4] Its products, software, solutions, and services are aimed at buildings, refineries, mines, plants, power grids, data centers, hospitals, warehouses, and other industrial environments. [4] The present entity is therefore a focused automation company carrying the Honeywell brand and legacy after the 2025 materials and 2026 aerospace separations. [1] [3]
