“Sinopec” refers to a corporate group and to its listed operating company, so the distinction matters. The official group history says China Petrochemical Corporation was formally established in July 1983. A later group profile says China Petrochemical Corporation was established in July 1998 on the basis of the former corporation and incorporated as a limited-liability corporation in August 2018. The listed China Petroleum & Chemical Corporation was established as a joint-stock company on February 25, 2000, during the restructuring of the group’s core oil-and-gas and chemical operations. Sinopec Corp. describes itself as a vertically integrated energy and chemical company. Its principal operations include oil and gas exploration and production, pipeline transportation and sales, refining, petrochemicals, coal chemicals, synthetic fiber, trading, technology R&D and application, and hydrogen-energy services covering production, storage, transportation and sales. The company also lists battery charging and swapping, solar, wind and other new-energy businesses. Its A-share code is 600028 and its H-share code is 00386. [2]

The latest operating information shows the scale and transition of the listed company. Sinopec reported 2025 operating income of RMB2.78 trillion and profit attributable to shareholders of RMB32.476 billion. Its 2025 disclosure also reports 9,953 domestic and overseas patent applications, 5,768 patents granted, more than 50,000 newly added charging terminals, continued expansion in LNG and hydrogen refuelling, and steady operation of China’s first million-tonne-class CCUS project.
