Changan Automobile

Changan Ford is a 50/50 automotive joint venture between Ford Motor Company and Changan Automobile established in 2001 in Chongqing, China. The partnership serves as Ford's primary manufacturing and engineering platform in China, operating vehicle, engine, and transmission facilities that produce Ford and Lincoln vehicles for the Chinese market. Over its history, the venture has expanded beyond vehicle assembly to include localized product development, powertrain manufacturing, supply-chain integration, dealer networks, and electric-vehicle initiatives. At its peak, Changan Ford sold approximately 957,000 vehicles annually. In 2023, the partners further expanded their cooperation through a new-energy vehicle venture focused on electric and hybrid vehicles.

Changan Ford is widely regarded as one of the largest and most significant U.S.–China automotive joint ventures, combining approximately 25 years of continuous cooperation, multi-billion-dollar capital investment, large-scale manufacturing infrastructure, nearly one million annual vehicle sales at its peak, and deep integration across engineering, production, distribution, and electrification activities.
